Ruins of some of the surface buildings of the lead mine, which was established in the 1880s, can clearly be seen when travelling on foot or in a vehicle through Cwm Cyneiniog. For a short time during the second decade of the twentieth century is one of the best equipped mines in Europe. However, shortly after the end of World War 1, mining ceased due to the collapse in the market price of lead and zinc.
